Common Issues to Watch Out for in Your AC

Spring has just started, but the first signs of summer can already be felt in some parts of the country due to climate change. This signals the need for you to crank up your air conditioning unit as temperatures start to rise. Here are some common AC maintenance issues you should watch out for and promptly address.

Low Refrigerant Levels

The refrigerant is responsible for absorbing heat from the air going out of your AC into your home. The logic is simple: If your AC is low on refrigerant, it won’t produce enough cool air. If your home remains warm even when the AC is on full blast, consider checking the amount of refrigerant and refilling the unit when necessary.

Faulty Fan

If the refrigerant absorbs the heat, the heat pump compresses it to allow the heat to be discharged. The discharged heat is then blown outside your house through the fan. If the fan is not functioning properly, heat can be trapped inside the system and cause the compressor to overheat.

Frozen Coil

The cool air coming out of an AC is not enough to actually ice up a glass of water on your table. However, in concentrated amounts, it can cause ice to form in the coils of the AC. This happens when the cool air cannot freely pass due to the thick deposit of dust in the filter.
